Also, i noticed that half-bang's mother's tickets are actually for a train rather than an airplane... or a boat. This means that, whetever she may be going, it "would" leave her country at all...
It is a bit sad there wasn't any backstory explaining why is Star so obsessed with stars. We are probably going to learn at some point how did she start her stargazing hobby, but apparently the star was already her emblem since before she became a little nun.
