Literally Reisen Udongein Inaba "test rabbit".

Japanese is similar to English in that they both use "guinea pig" as the metaphor. The Germans preferred bunnies.

There are a lot of adaptations to culture Japan has been doing over the course of history
Liturature originated from China and simplified to Hiragana
Some use of vocabulary from nations such as America and Russia
America also brought many things used in day to day lives such as shoes, ice and various alternatives to flooring.

    [fɛɐ̯ˈzuːχskaˌniːnçən] "Fer-ZOOHS-kah-NEEN-shun"
    (Translation: Guinea pig)
In the metaphorical "experimental test subject" sense. Guinea pigs in the literal sense are called "Meerschweinchen".
