... I generally use 40k for my crapsack barometer, but yeah, I'd say that qualifies. What's the source for this, btw? I vaguely recall hearing something like that, but can't for the life of me remember where.

Well it is only vaguely said iirc that Maribel and Renko are searching for a world other than their own and it might have been a crackpot world if they wanted a new world or the worlds might actually be the moment Maribel's power evolves as implied in the wiki and speculation that Maribel and Yukari are one person and the former is the younger self of the latter. It is also very much possible for time travel via spiriting away as stated in the novels and humans can become a youkai if they are powerful enough She might have created the world of gensokyo as opposed to her original world
