Maybe...the noun she uses is 自ら, or "mizukara", which means "personally". It's not a noun that can be used to talk about inanimate objects. Plus, I think she's past the point of caring about the hat on her head.

Mizukara in this case means "On my own accord." In this case, Suwako jumped back not much from the impact, but on her own will to alleviate the damage.
