Is this one of those things that you need a certain quality of monitor or whatnot to see?

well not particularly quality of monitor, but depending on how the contrast/brightness/etc on the monitor is tuned currently you will see it or not.

well i'll start by mentioning that FWIW, I keep my monitor properly calibrated because I do graphic work, and I can barely see the damn thing. had to open up the image in an editor and adjust the luminosity curve to see what the thing is.

its some sort of snake dragon thing

Thanks. If I'd actually taken the time to see the image myself and that's all it turned out to be, I would have been PISSED.

Huh. If it wasn't for you guys explaining it, I would never have noticed it. Its so difficult to see, I thought it was just glare from a lamp (having smeared hand oil, dust and crud from 6 years of usage on a poorly calibrated monitor didn't help)

Okay here is a small tip: Try using the Microsoft Office Picture Manager and edit it by adjusting it's midtone to darker... then adjusting the contrast and brightness. So what i did is brightness in -69 and contrast in 55 well even it's not quite useful you will see the snake AKA Mishaguji-sama.

Oh boy... By the way i treat this... she is like Hanyuu from from Higurashi...

If you have an image editor that can adjust midtones, shouldn’t you also be able to just turn the shadows setting almost all the way to the lowest setting and be done?

That was jacked up. I threw this picture in Photoshop and Inverted it, then hued it up some... that's so creepy... yet so epic.

Actually, you could just use MS Paint to fill the white in.
