Just wait until it evolves into Magneton; it "eats" through the gap between the two lower Magnemites.

I'm convinced it doesn't so much open a mouth and chew as much as it disintegrates the matter to base ionized particles it then draws into its body through electrolysis.

(Of course, in spite of hovering, Magnemites are vulnerable to ground attacks unless it uses a special move that... makes it hover from a statistic standpoint. Meanwhile, "flying" pokemon that don't actually have flying animations, like Delibird are immune to ground-type attacks...)

More than half of what goes on in the Pokemon world doesn't make sense (even if you factor in a the whole "magic" angle) and then the rest still makes you wonder far harder than is humanly acceptable.
