The real question is whether or not being raised by her biological parents would make Maomao more or less wacky. Personally, I think she'd be even weirder.
She'd probably not have ended up much differently oddly enough. She would likely still not be raised by her biological father, because it's the way he behaves that is the reason she outright dislikes and hates him for being a creep. Funny enough, I still suspect she'd end up raised more by her adoptive father than her biological father even if this less tragic timeline had occurred. Which would probably mean not that much change in her behavior.
Apparently the author of the light novel in Twitter (can't find it right now though) said that Maomao would be obsessed with power instead of taking up medicine if she was raised by Lakan instead.
Either way I don't see why Maomao would end up being raised by Luomen and the Verdigris House if her biological parents didn't mess up their relationship. Her first impression of Lakan was pretty bad and is a primary factor as to why she dislikes him: a creepy guy beaten up by grandma but in reality is simply a desperate father wanting to see his daughter and take home (despite already choosing Luomen and Verdigris as her family). First impressions tend to stick out very long, and she also thought that Lakan abandoned her courtesan mother Fengxian. And then it snowballs down into jealousy (Luomen keeps praising Lakan's skills and she can't see why)
That first impression could've been prevented though. If Fengxian clearly communicated to Lakan that she's going to conceive a child (therefore planning their family properly), Maomao's family would've easily been a happy one with Lakan and Fengxian imo. Unfortunately Fengxian's petty game didn't go as she wished and Lakan got really unlucky with his uncle Luomen getting kicked out of the rear palace which resulted in him and Lakan having to study in exile to the West for 3 years.
