Even if it was a joke, unironically saying that Digimon is a ripoff of a certain popular franchise is not uncommon despite they're not really similar to one another, down to their target audiences.

Yeah, but I think most people are at least familiar enough with Digimon that it would be pretty rare to unironically claim it to be a ripoff of something that only came out this year.
