Syd Mead was great in Blade Runner . . .

But then he designed the mecha in turn_a_gundam . . .

Turn A wasn't too bad. In my humble opinion it was a much needed brief change of pace. The EZ-8 is another good example of something a little different (kind of made me think "wow that's what a Gundam would be like if it was made in the states, function over form").

I'd agree that the ez-8_gundam does manage to look pretty nice even with a minimal colour palette, but even that model seems to have a lot more in common with traditional Gundam "hero" suits than the turn_a_gundam_(mobile_suit) did.

Seriously, would it have killed Syd Mead to put the V-fin on the forehead instead of making it into a mustache? The bizarre aesthetics of stuff like the FLAT-L06D FLAT mobile suit is somewhat forgivable when you remember that it's 3000 years in the future from the standard Universal Century timeline stories, but the Turn A is supposed to be the pinnacle of that "ancient design aesthetic," and yet doesn't look like it came from that era, unlike the renamed Zakus in the anime.

Oh, and that "mystery foodstuff" in the lower-left corner--one source calls it "New Suche." You can learn what it is by watching this video:

To me, it sounds distinctly inedible.

So your only complaint is that Turn A doesn't look like every other Gundam? Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I honestly love the fact that Turn A was so distinct, and find the machine to be beautiful, especially in motion. I honestly think it'd be boring to have just another plain Gundam for Turn A, which is supposed to be an alien in it's setting.

    The Deckard Blaster. So cool...
    Deckard (Harrison Ford)
The two-is-enough mystery foodstuff... mysterious... This seems to be a shrimp tempura bowl.
The Syd Mead-designed police spinner. It's beautiful...
