Finally. Wizards has released images of the Eternal Masters set for Magic: The Gathering! I had the honor of creating new art for two older cards for the set. The original card art can be seen here and the brief said, "The goal here is to not completely visually contradict the reference, but at the same time to bring him into our current Magic aesthetic. Keep the 4 wings, but butch-up his body into what we think of as an awesome and intimidating dragon. Probably shorten the neck and bring a more aggressive structure to his head."
I had not worked on a dragon for MTG prior to this so it was a pleasure and I personally I'm fond of this image as it got close to capturing the lighting, colors and overall look I had in mind for the image. Hope you enjoy!
