I think i've said it before,but i'm surprised how downplayed Patchouli and Remilia are to Patch/Mari,rem/sakuya,or w/e.
I mean,they're best friends,with patchouli being the only person besides flandre who has no particular house responsibility,and in fact isn't there due to a blood relation.
it's probably safe to say they're canonically best friends,and probably closer then rem/sakuya
These 2 are probably up there next to Marisa+Reimu and Yukari+Yuyuko(Even if you count the forgetting part from Yuyuko). But once a trend becomes popular, ya know it just snowballs. Lolicon Ran and Pad sakuya started as a joke and now you can't even look the otherway without seeing the same joke again. For whatever reason, maybe Remilia/Patchu is "Boring".
I think personally it's just the lack of content to blame for it if thats the case.Looking at SSiB they have loads of fun together...i mean Patchouli makes Remilia a rocket ship :D
course...usually it's based off fan-content...like i think Alice/Mari grew from "Marisa stole the precious thing".I'm fairly certain Patch/Mari is from passive aggressive (for lack of better term) conversation they have about vitamins and eating.
I'll be honest,i don't know where Sakuya/Rem came from short of the classic Master/Servant combo.
Patch/rem i think is my favorite though,despite me also liking patch/mari.Probably because their relationship tends to have some fun in it besides the fact it's a relationship.
...course Mari/patch has the book thefts,which are always good for a laugh.
I have to agree, there are a lot of strange pairings that get pushed ahead of ones that are, if not obvious, quite reasonable. It's kinda funny to talk about that under a Satou Kibi picture, that artist always seems to cycle through hints at so many couplings, even for the same characters, from work to work.
