Artist's commentary:

ドイツ空軍の戦闘爆撃機。大戦末期のパワーインフレに乗じて登場したこの高性能機は、年齢インフレにまさかの9桁で終止符を打った永琳先生さながらです。また多くの機体が最新鋭の技術搭載に躍起になっていたのを尻目に、ドルニエ創業以来の秘伝であった串型エンジン配置でこれらに対抗しました。
前後にそれぞれエンジンとプロペラを配した独創的を通り越して完全にアレなデザインが印象的な機体ですが、速度・加速・旋回性能とも非常に優れ、双発機の常識を超えた運動性を発揮したと言われます。人は見かけによりません。
残念ながら35機が生産されたものの実戦への参加実績はなく、これを目撃したイギリス人が仰天したという記録が残されているだけです。
最高速度は770kmとレシプロ最速クラスといわれた震電よりも速く、またどちらかのエンジンが止まっても飛行できるという生存性の高さを持っていました。戦闘爆撃機としても十分な性能を有し、生産ラインにさえ乗っていればメッサー・フォッケの双璧を崩しその後釜に納まれるだけのポテンシャルを有していました。

本機の愛称「プファイル」は、この独特な外見からとったもので「矢」を意味します。

Artist's commentary:

Dornier Do 335 Pfeil was a fighter bomber of the Luftwaffe. This high-power machine taking advantage of the "power inflation" in the later stages of WWII is reminiscent of Dr.Eirin who have put an end to the "age inflation" with 100,000,000 years old. Also, in contrast to many other aircraft which were eagerly equipped with cutting-edge technology, Dornier opposed this with a push-pull configuration that had been kept secret since Dornier’s establishment.
The craft leaves an impression mainly because of its totally bizarre design that goes beyond just creative, having both forward and backward-mounted propellers, and yet it excels in speed, acceleration, and revolution performance, and is said to have demonstrated maneuverability that surpasses conventional wisdom regarding two-motored planes. People are not always what they seem to be.
Unfortunately, although 35 of these planes were produced, there is no record of participation in actual combat, and the only record that remains is that of British witnesses being amazed on witnessing the aircraft.
With a top speed of 770 km/h (this speed varies a little depending on the source,) it was faster than the J7W1 Shinden, which was said to be one of the fastest reciprocating aircraft, and it had a high survival potential thanks to being able to fly even if one engine stopped. It was also fully efficient as a fighter bomber, and had the potential to surpass the unbeatable Messerschmitt/Focke-Wulf and become its successor, if only it had made it to the production line.

This plane’s nickname, "Pfeil," means "Arrow," and refers to the unique outward appearance of the craft.
