Frag of course was popularized among teens and 20-somethings by Quake 1's various death messages. Its origin lay in the Vietnam war when a platoon would kill their NCO.

Sorry, "Frag" means "part of a mission command order" An order for any kind of military operation, or part of it, contains numerous service details. The parts just meant for and concerning Your part is called a "frag". This does not invalid Your statement about whacking any incompetent officer ( noncom or PRIVATE!) this was rightly per definition a "frag" within the platoon, company or whatever unit.
