The story itself is /spoilerspoilerspoiler/ I guess that if you want to get an answer for this question you will have to watch the anime, or read on wikipedia, i think they do update the whole description of events per episode there.

If I have to give you spoilers, the story is quite depressing and a bit cruel. Her friends, magical girls, died horribly. She is mankind's last hope. In order to be a magical girl, she has to be a half zombie first which she don't want to.
Overall, this is quite a fun show. I recommend it for a dose of morning_rescue every week.
