Setsubun: A Fun Japanese Tradition to Welcome Spring

Setsubun is a traditional Japanese event held around February 3rd, marking the change from winter to spring. People celebrate by doing "Mamemaki" (bean-throwing) to wish for good health and happiness.

They throw roasted soybeans while shouting, "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" (Demons out! Fortune in!), driving away bad luck and inviting good fortune.

Nowadays, Setsubun is also a fun event, especially for children. Dads or teachers often wear a demon mask and playfully run around while kids throw beans at them. The "demons" pretend to be hurt, making everyone laugh!

Setsubun is a joyful tradition that welcomes spring and brings people together.
