Artist's commentary

  • Original
  • a distant high school memory; an unusually foggy September night that I spent staying up late with new friends, at 1am the power suddenly went out for the entire city. My friend lived in a small house adjacent to a grain silo, whose neon sign was strangely still powered. We decided to play baseball in the empty lot nearby. It was a surreal experience, the world made so small, smothered by this thick fog, the only light coming from a massive blazing sign that turned the whole world this odd sallow green. I could just barely make out the baseball whizzing through the air. The only sounds were distant cars, our laughs and cries of excitement and wonder, the crack of the baseball bat, excited breath and pounding hearts. We ended up getting kind of nervous when this encompassing and deep vibration seemed to seep up out of the ground for almost half an hour, and ended up running back inside when some strangers showed up to our game.
