because it helps sell the plot when characters conveniently forget they have superpowers when it would help the most. i believe Ao Usagi has done some artwork on this concept.

As far as I remember, diseases are mostly effects and thus lifeless. It was stated a few pages ago that her powers don't work on things that don't have a concept of life and death.

Yuyuko's power is to induce death within mortals. She can't control the disease within Reimu. That's something you'd see from Yamame.

Her ability is "Can invoke death in mortals ". Also, she takes the power pretty seriously and won't use it recklessly or out of spite, so don't expect her using it on anyone during these fights!

She's only ever canonically used it once. On herself, it was accidental, but it's also how she committed suicide.

Besides, can Yuyuko target several hundred (at least) creatures at once? Nazrin made that pathogen incubate (read: reproduce) rather quickly, so there's already quite a few microbes in Reimu that she'd need to strike down. And even THEN, that won't quicken Reimu's body's repair systems (the deleterious effects of a disease aren't the pathogens themselves, but the side-effects of their colonization, which happen to have ontological inertia).

And remember: Thus far, the only ones who know that Reimu was diseased, not poisoned, are Eirin and Nazrin, and possibly Shizuha. Yuyuko shouldn't even know that there's something in Reimu to aim her death evocation at.
