Its actually a brilliant strategy on Remi and possibly Reimu's part. Patchy and Alice are not going to be very good fighters. But having them in the ring is going to distract Marisa and Nitori and it makes Team Red 75% look good for going against two to one odds.

indeed and unlike the ghost/rabbit team, Marisa's team isn't prepared for any foul play and since their seconds are particularly feeble (Patchouli infinitely more so), it wouldn't make much of a difference.

Not to say Marisa and Nitori wouldn't put up a fight; it's just unlikely that they'd win. I'd imagine they might put up such a fight that Remilia would applaud them.
