The problem of flowing water for vampires...I still don't know what the reasoning is in Romanian lore, though. Impromptu baptism, I guess?

Remilia reeeeally shouldn't be hanging out with Kogasa then!

Although that last panel makes me want to hug and protect the poor Scarlet sisters.

Vampirism is based on Rabies. Rabid animals have hyrdophobia, thus they avoid bodies of water.

    Other non-rabies reasons:
*Water is pure and unable to hold magic.

It always struck me as odd that the Scarlet sisters would be weak to rain since vampires can summon wind and rain.

Not exactly. Running water or flowing water is considered pure and untainted in most mythologies. Springs, for example, are often associated with various goddesses, nymphs being probably the most obvious example. It was said then that evil, impure things could not cross running water. What happened if they did varies from their total destruction to their becoming pure and released from the evils that infected them.

Anyways, the belief predates modern vampires and included all kinds of creatures but since vampires have sort of become the textbook example of an impure creature they are what the myth is most commonly associated with now. As for how it became a widespread belief, the answer is probably Bram Stroker's Dracula since that is where most commonly held beliefs on Vampires stems from.

Hm. That puts me in mind of one of the quirks of the nuckelavee from the Orkney Islands--it could not cross fresh water AT ALL. Brackish and salt water were fair game though (especially since the horror came FROM the sea). Kelpies? Different story--NO water would bar them from plunging their latest victim into the nearest lake. Not sure about each-uisges.

Um... it's the thunder that they are scared of.

I've met more people who are scared of thunder in Japan than any other country.

Well, there is an urban legend/child's story that if you leave your stomach uncovered during a thunderstorm, your bellybutton will be stolen. Somehow.

Raijin, god of thunder, comes and eats them.

I don't think this should be in the Charisma Break pool, since there wasn't any charisma seen that was broken.

I wonder if this should go under game mechanics due to the fact that what they're doing in the last panel is their crouching animation in one of the Touhou fighting games?

It's weird. The Scottish seem to have a lot of legends about monstrous horses that are connected to water. I wonder why...
