It's probably because I can't read Japanese except for a few individual words (with help of a dictionary, no less).
Literal transcription is about as much as I feel comfortable to do. I don't want to risk distortions by adding grammar/wording implied meanings.

Another factor is that I'm not a native English speaker, and I never properly studied it's grammar. And I'll probably never do since I already graduated from an English-speaking university (in Canada) with my crappy skills.

For a non-native speaker, your English grammar and vocabulary seem to be nearly impeccable, if the above comment is anything by which to judge.

Still, I think the Danbooru standard is that no translation is preferable to inaccurate translation. This pool didn't need a whole lot of drastic correction, mind. So long as you're reasonably sure of what you're translating, keep practicing. (Goodness knows I've come up with off-base translations here just because I wasn't quite paying enough attention to some detail.)

I'm aware of that. I only do translations that I am fairly certain of. In many instances it would result in a partial translation, and I avoid that as well, because I think it might turn away real translators.
But sometimes things simply get too long without a translation. In the scale of months. Most of the time I only take up a work that I cannot expect anyone else to do.
In this particular case, I did it because 1. the text looked simple enough 2. to help with approval.

On the last point, there is nothing else that I would be practicing for. In fact, I'm not really learning anything in doing what I'm doing.

I think there's a thin line between helping and harming, I hate to cross it but it's not always visible and not exactly stationary, if you see what I mean.

Translating sound effect onomatopoeias is not the best activity in the world, but at least it can give hints to native speakers so that they can change it for something better suited.

Well, my French is better. I learned the grammar in depth in french high school. When I switched to English what-they-call-here college, English courses are high-level and do not do grammar anymore, so I never learned it. Writing English is all guess work for me.

My native is Chinese. By far my most fluent and I can read almost anything: simplified, traditional, and Japanese Kanji. In a given piece of Japanese the Kanji part is the easiest for me.

Reading strange English feels very unpleasant for me; I usually reads as quick as possible to get the meaning without looking at it for too long. I'm all for literal translations, though, as long as it doesn't feel too weird.

I could probably translate some stuff on the site if everything wasn't in traditional chinese, since in my country we learn simplified (although, I'm pretty bad at it).

In that case, may I say you were an excellent student of English and/or had some fantastic teachers, because your posts here are nearly flawless.

And I'm sorry I didn't get to edit my post before you responded to it. I re-read it after going through the rest of the pool and realized it initially seemed 1) a bit mean-spirited and 2) rather unfair, as a lot of your translation was merely a bit rough, but not wrong.
