    ukagaka

    伺か 偽春菜

A Japanese computer program that provides mascot characters on the user's desktop. Also referred to as "偽ペルソナウェア with 偽春菜" (Fake personaware with Nise-Haruna), "あれ以外の何か with 任意" (Are Igai no Nanika with Nin'i-tan), "何か" (Nanika), and "偽春菜" (Nise-Haruna).

When the user launches the program (called Baseware), cute (or weird) characters called Ghosts (usually a set of two) appear on the screen, have random conversations, do things at specific times and perform actions in response to events, such as being touched by the mouse. Additional trivial functions are available, such as having them check incoming email, synchronizing the clock and making online updates.

Ghosts can be made by users, and at its height of popularity around the year 2002, a countless amount (in the thousands, according to one theory) of diverse Ghosts created by users were being distributed. Even simple graphic files of Ghost forms (called "Shells") were being circulated as freeware.

The most famous Ghosts are "Sakura & Unyuu," which are installed by default by Baseware, along with the famous "Emily and Teddy" that were default Ghosts of SSP, a famous Ukagaka-compatible Baseware.
