Could anyone be so kind to tell me what has been of this series these last years? I only watched the first season which I loved. Not heard anything "bad" about the second and some friends have told me that the movie is completely awesome. I suppose that the series has to be still fairly popular if it gets a new VN(well, not that new actually).

The source material (Light Novels) is still selling well in Japan, IIRC. Don't count on it getting animated soon though, some trouble occurred at KyoAni that made a 3rd season very unlikely at this point.
