I must say that I like this take on the Kancolle universe, even if it is cliche.

What's so cliche about this anyway?

A part of the fanon majority thinks that sank girls return as the very enemy they encounter.

Actually, I think the "it's a masquerade war in the modern world" based upon spiritual powers summoned from the spirits of warships, rather than just physically making miniaturized WW2 stuff in a supposed future is both newer and actually more sensical (if you don't mind the magic) than the standard treatment.

I got the same thing in mind. I do think that the abyssal ships came from despair of the fallen crews that drown along with it's ships during the war.

Agreed, I've always thought that new Fleet Girls found as drops come from purifying the defeated Abyssals of their rage and grief...I mean it's pretty much confirmed in canon now that they are a: lost souls and b: can be 'redeemed', just listen the event boss defeated quotes. 'twould explain the abundance of miko and onmyouji types among the BBs and CVs.

It might be too late for this, but the KanColle movie sort of canonized that. But, maybe you already knew that.
