I'm a competitive tryhard with both Smash and Pokemon, so those are the two fields where my default response is "no mercy", regardless of the opponent.

Any other time though, the kids get to win.

Nonsense. If they do not learn failure, they shall never learn the meaning of victory. If their spirit is that easy to crush, they didn't deserve to win anyway.
