Can't be - if this happened before the oni storyline, Mieru should also have her middle bangs cut.

I meant that I thought that she was simply redesigned but it looks like it's just a joke about her being 'improved' back to her original hairstyle, though it must be said that there's definitely some physics defiance involved in recreating those air intakes.

Mieru doesn't look like she was so lucky though.
