I think everyone's reaction here is because the first translation for that line was literally Hibiki asking for sex using "would you like to do it with me", which not only fails the intended meaning completely but is so bluntly inappropriate.

Things like this make me wonder if this happens in Japanese when speaking it as opposed to writing/translating it. It's like a Freudian slip? An inopportune pun? Or is it purely misunderstanding?

The initial translation was incorrect, as the translator didn't recognize the implication of the "three choices" trope mentioned on the next page.

As I've frequently discovered myself, translation, especially for material like this, requires some background cultural knowledge in addition to purely linguistic knowledge. Knowing the significance of Natsume Souseki can make the difference in understanding the implications behind the phrase "The Moon is beautiful", for instance. And such attendant cultural knowledge can be downright vital in translating Pop Team Epic.

All that said, I was only responding to Elgee's comment, which was posted after the translation was corrected. (The initial version didn't include the word "first", which is the specific word Elgee wondered about.) The prior comments were indeed based on the initial translation, which is why I didn't worry about them.

The 「先に... する」thing is a dead giveaway as to what it's referring to, really. (The first TL completely omitted the 先に part, too.)
