More like, anime logic in general. So many show the hair and have cute little styles and everything, when covering the hair is the entire point. Half of it is probably Japan not knowing how Christianity works.
But in general, I usually find it fun to analyze things. Whether I get “omg, you’re taking this way too seriously” or people join in to have fun with me is 50/50

Yes, there are exaggerated anime, just as there are exaggerated everything, especially cartoons. but there are just as many that devote a great deal of effort to realism, and telling real stories and portraying things authentically. Meticulously crafting every detail. Plus even if the art style exaggerated doesn’t mean the show isn’t realistic or portrayed with accuracy. Like there are over the top cooking and sports shows that go into meticulous detail to portray the actual process and portraying real techniques.
Certainly the entire nation of Japan doesn’t disregard realism, like you said. No, “anime” isn’t “designed to be unrealistic” and no, that is not “the entire appeal of anime”
It kinda sounds like you need to expand your horizons and watch some anime other than than like, shounen jump. I often see this misconception from outsiders making fun of anime because they saw someone with a one piece shirt.
