    That is one heck of an anime-style cuirass. Makes me wonder if the artist knew about that style of renaissance armor. Then again, I've seen many works where artists love to make armor segmented in a way or two.

    I think the artist just thought "Hm, this armoured character is going to be huge, and I don't really like large, blank spaces with nothing in them (unless they're boobs or asses). Gotta break it up somehow."

    Most likely. The type of armor I'm referring to (anime/anima) is exclusively Italian; most people has never heard of it. I just really love making connections between fantasy armor with real examples. A combination of the two makes truly unique pieces of armor, like in the Monster Hunter series.
