What's the difference between an inari and a kitsune?

A kitsune is just a fox, something you and I might see in real life, whereas an inari is a fox spirit, something based in myth and folklore.

Ah ic. Would an Inari be the same as a youko or kyuubi then?

That was referring to Yakumo Ran,a Touhou character who is also a 9-tail Inari.
The "CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN" calling was one of her trademark :3

Inari[稲荷] is a deity, whereas youko[妖狐] is just a fox spirit that is evil most of the time.
Kyubi[九尾-nine tail] is in a category of youko. The number of tail represents the magnitude of its mana.
