Some fur animals grow a coat of thick hair during winter and shed it when the climate turns warmer. Not sure if horses do that though.
Nearly all of them do but the growth of their winter coat is triggered by photoperiod (i.e. shorter daylight hours) and not by temps. And it is less noticeable in some breeds.
